CHI Memorial received more than $1 million in grant money from the State of Georgia for its work providing Covid testing and vaccines to the North Georgia community. Those funds were used to purchase three ventilators and 12 state-of-the-art Stryker LIFEPACK monitors/defibrillators to go on the current ambulance fleet. Two new ambulances were also purchased and will arrive later this year. The new equipment and ambulances will further enhance the emergency services provided to residents of Dade and Walker County.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will no longer recommend routine Covid shots for healthy children and pregnant women. The change from the CDC comes a week after Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary announced the agency planned to restrict the use of Covid shots to older adults and children and adults with underlying medical conditions.
The U.S. saw a small increase in measles cases last week, an indicator that outbreaks are slowing down, though exposures at a busy airport in Colorado and a Shakira concert in New Jersey are keeping public health experts on their toes. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said on May 23 that there are 1,046 confirmed measles cases, up 22 from last week. Texas, where the nation's biggest outbreak raged during the late winter and spring, reported one additional case on May 27 for a total of 729.

Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
Publix Super Markets, Inc. has initiated a voluntary recall of GreenWise Pear, Kiwi, Spinach & Pea Baby Food, produced by Bowman Andros LLC and distributed to Publix grocery stores in the company’s eight-state operating area. The product is sold in 4-ounce plastic pouches and has the potential to be contaminated with elevated levels of lead. This recall is being initiated as a result of routine sampling and is being made with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
