Multi-Country Hantavirus Cluster Linked to Cruise Ship

 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a Health Alert Network (HAN) Health Advisory to inform clinicians and health departments about a new cluster of hantavirus disease cases caused by infection with the Andes virus. Hantavirus disease can cause severe illness and can be fatal. Clinicians should be aware of the potential for imported cases, although the risk of broad spread to the United States is considered extremely unlikely at this time.

Toxic Blue-Green Algae Popping Up in Georgia Lake

 

Visitors to Allatoona Lake are being warned to be extra careful about getting a mouthful of lake water. Some of the coves and inlets around Red Top Mountain are under a toxic algae invasion.  The algae can be fatal to pets, and cause vomiting, diarrhea, and headaches in people. 

Measles Cases and Outbreaks

 

As of May 7, 2026, the United States had 1,842 confirmed measles cases reported. Among these, 1,830 measles cases were reported by 39 jurisdictions. There have been 25 new outbreaks reported in 2026, and 93% of confirmed cases (1,712 of 1,842) are outbreak-associated (428 from outbreaks starting in 2026 and 1,284 from outbreaks that started in 2025).

Microsoft Warns of Sophisticated Phishing Campaign Heavily Targeting Health Care Organizations

 

Microsoft Threat Intelligence is warning of a large-scale, multistage phishing campaign that disproportionately targeted the health care sector, sending “code of conduct” themed emails to lure users into credential theft and token compromise. According to Microsoft, health care was the most targeted industry in the campaign, which reached more than 35,000 users across more than 13,000 organizations, primarily in the U.S.

George J. Howe Co. Voluntarily Recalls Sunflower Seeds Due to Undeclared Cashews

 

George J. Howe Co. is voluntarily recalling 13,619 pounds of Sunflower Seeds because they may contain undeclared cashew allergens. Individuals with an allergy or severe sensitivity to tree nuts are at risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume these products. This product is safe to consume for anyone who does not have a Tree Nut (Cashew) allergy or sensitivity to Tree Nuts (Cashews).

Spring & Mulberry Expands Voluntary Recall of Select Chocolate Bars

 

Spring & Mulberry is voluntarily expanding its previously announced recall of select chocolate bars due to possible contamination from Salmonella. This expansion follows a comprehensive root cause investigation conducted by the company’s manufacturing partners in coordination with leading food safety experts and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. 

XD Investments LLC Recalls Better Weather Fix Elixir Products 

 

XD Investments LLC is voluntarily recalling approximately 448 Boxes of Better Weather Fix Elixir products, including all flavors and variations, because FDA analysis found the products to contain undeclared Mitragynine and Mitragynine Pseudoindoxyl. Consumption of MP can produce undesirable effects such as nausea, vomiting, rapid heart rate (tachycardia), palpitations, hallucinations, sedation, anxiety, and loss of consciousness.

Pharmacal Issues Nationwide Recall of MG217 Multi-Symptom Treatment Cream & Skin Protectant Eczema Cream

 

Pharmacal is recalling one lot of MG217 Multi-symptom Treatment Cream & Skin Protectant Eczema Cream, 6oz, tube to the consumer level. The product has been found to be contaminated with Staphylococcus aureus. Use of the product could result in a range of infections from localized to severe or life-threatening adverse events.

Identify, Isolate and Inform: It is important to continue to ask travel questions. The purpose of this notice is to remind healthcare providers about actions to take in Georgia when evaluating patients for possible serious communicable diseases.
