At Least 588 U.S. Measles Cases Reported in January

 

At least 588 measles cases have been confirmed so far this year across the U.S., according to updated data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This means the U.S. has seen more cases in about one month than is typically recorded in an entire year.

National data shows Georgia is one of several states that have struggled to keep their rates of disconnected or rerouted 988 calls low. Disconnected calls typically involve the caller hanging up, possibly after a long wait time.

Text-based “smishing” scams are being increasingly used to impersonate hospital leadership or credentialing staff. Phone-based “vishing” calls can bypass filters entirely and pressure employees into disclosing credentials in real time.

Nipah Virus Outbreak Has Asia on High Alert Amid Deaths in India

 

An outbreak of the deadly Nipah virus in India has put many countries in Asia on high alert, given the fatality rate in humans can be between 40% and 75%. Several countries, including Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore, have introduced new screening and testing measures, after at least two people died of Nipah virus in the Indian state of West Bengal this month.

Researchers Identify New Blood Markers That May Detect Early Pancreatic Cancer

 

National Institutes of Health (NIH)-supported investigators have developed a blood test to find pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, one of the deadliest forms of cancer. The new test could improve survival rates from pancreatic cancer, which tends to be diagnosed at late stages when therapy is less likely to be effective. The findings were published in Clinical Cancer Research. Overall, only about 1 in 10 pancreatic cancer patients survive more than five years from diagnosis.

Akkarco LLC Recalls Product Due to Possible Health Risk

 

Akkarco LLC is voluntarily recalling Ashfiat Alharamain Energy Support because the product contains undeclared Tadalafil, an ingredient in FDA approved products for treatment of male erectile dysfunction in the family of drugs known as phosphodiesterase (PDE5) inhibitors. Products containing tadalafil cannot be marketed as dietary supplements. Ashfiat Alharamain Energy Support is an unapproved new drug for which safety and efficacy have not been established.

Why Not Natural is voluntarily recalling its Why Not Natural Organic Moringa - Green Superfood due to potential contamination with Salmonella, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
