First Reported Outbreak Caused by Marburg Virus in Ethiopia

 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a Health Alert Network (HAN) Health Advisory to inform clinicians and health departments about a new outbreak of Marburg virus disease (MVD) in Ethiopia's South Ethiopia and Sidama regions. MVD is a severe illness that can be fatal. The risk of spread to the United States is considered low at this time; however, clinicians should be aware of the potential for imported cases.

Flu and RSV Climb in Georgia as Winter Virus Season Starts Slowly

 

Georgia's winter respiratory virus season is off to a slow start, with COVID numbers low. But local doctors say they are seeing an uptick in flu and RSV cases, and they expect numbers to rise over the coming months. There are steps people can take to mitigate the spread of these viruses ahead of the holidays, Dr. Sara Turbow, a doctor at Grady Health and a professor of medicine at Emory University, and Dr. Andrew Thornton of Wellstar said, starting with vaccinations for all three illnesses.

Bill Reintroduced to Strengthen Healthcare Cybersecurity

 

A bipartisan quartet of senators has reintroduced the Health Care Cybersecurity and Resiliency Act of 2025 in another attempt to bolster privacy and healthcare cybersecurity. The Health Care Cybersecurity and Resiliency Act of 2025 was introduced by Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee Chair Bill Cassidy (R-LA), and was co-sponsored by Sens. Mark Warner (D-VA), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), and John Cornyn (R-TX). 

NIH-Led Study Reveals Role of Mobile DNA Elements in Lung Cancer Progression

 

Using lung cancer biospecimens from the Sherlock-Lung study, an international team led by National Institutes of Health (NIH) researchers, identified key factors that drive tumor evolution and influence outcomes. Overall, the findings describe a previously unknown origin of some aggressive lung cancers. From whole-genome sequencing of more than 1,000 lung cancer cases, the team focused on 542 lung adenocarcinomas with diverse clonal architectures.

TBC Distribution Corporate is recalling Lucky Foods brand Cinnamon Powder 40g, best before date Sept. 15, 2027, because it has the potential to be contaminated with elevated levels of lead. Short term exposures to very low levels of lead may not elicit any symptoms. It is possible that increased blood lead levels may be the only apparent sign of lead exposure.

Violent Actors and Cyber Criminals Threaten Emergency Services Sector

The Office of Intelligence and Analysis sent an assessment of threats to the Emergency Services Sector— police, firefighters, and other first responders— from violent extremists, other physical threat actors, or malicious cyber actors.
