Atlanta police officers are getting a fresh look inspired by international law enforcement agencies. Ahead of the city hosting eight matches in next year’s World Cup, the department unveiled new uniforms designed to keep officers safe while serving as an identifiable beacon for global visitors, according to police Chief Darin Schierbaum. He said officers will start to wear the uniforms in this month at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and in Zone 5 in downtown Atlanta .
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced an end to the national shortage of sodium chloride 0.9% IV solutions products. The agency said it continues to work with manufacturers on other IV fluids still experiencing shortages. The nation's IV solutions supply was significantly impacted last year when Hurricane Helene disrupted production at a Baxter manufacturing facility in North Carolina. The company produces 60% of the country’s supply of IV solutions.
Health officials in New York City say a cluster of Legionnaires’ disease in Central Harlem has grown to 90 cases, including three deaths. The update comes days after New York City’s health department proposed new regulations for the testing of cooling towers, which they suspect are linked to the outbreak. Cooling towers are rooftop devices that release mist into the air as they cool large buildings. If the water inside becomes too warm, stagnant, or isn’t properly disinfected, Legionella bacteria can grow and infect people who inhale the mist.
Dollar General Corporation is recalling three lots of its 8-ounce Clover Valley® Instant Coffee due to the potential presence of glass. The recall is being initiated after a customer notified Dollar General employees about the potential issue. Ingesting glass fragments may cause injury to the consumer, and these injuries may include damage to teeth, laceration of the mouth and throat, or perforation of the intestine. No illnesses or injuries have been reported to date.
DermaRite Industries, LLC is voluntarily recalling individual lots of products due to microbial contamination identified as Burkholderia cepecia. Burkholderia Cepacia Complex in these products may result in serious and life-threatening infections. The contaminated products may be used by immunosuppressed individuals or by people attending to immunosuppressed individuals. In healthy individuals with minor skin lesions the use of the product will more likely result in local infections, whereas in immunocompromised individuals the infection is more likely to spread into blood stream leading to life-threatening sepsis.
Tandem Diabetes Care, Inc. has announced a voluntary medical device correction for select t:slim X2 insulin pumps to address a potential speaker-related issue that can trigger an error resulting in a discontinuation of insulin delivery. The error, which appears as a Malfunction 16 alarm to the user, will stop insulin delivery and terminate communication between the insulin pump and the continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) device.
