What is Georgia Project Firstline? The Georgia Department of Public Health and the Georgia Hospital Association collaborated to increase infection prevention knowledge in Georgia through our 14 healthcare coalitions and our pediatric Specialty Coordinating Hospital, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Each region engaged an experienced infection preventionist to be a regional resource and provide infection prevention education to their regional partners.
There is a new parasite outbreak in 18 states across the country, including Georgia. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is currently monitoring the outbreak, as there have been over 140 cases and 20 hospitalizations. The illness is called Cyclosporiasis and it comes from the parasite Cyclospora, which is caused by eating or drinking contaminated food or water.

Kao USA Inc. issued a voluntary recall of select lots of its Oribe Serene Scalp Densifying Shampoo (8.5 oz and 33.8 oz) in the U.S. and Canada due to the detection of Pluralibacter gergoviae bacteria. Though Pluralibacter gergoviae bacteria pose little medical risk to healthy people, those with certain health issues such as weakened immune systems may be more susceptible to infection by the bacteria.
Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. is recalling frozen GreenWise Organic IQF Blueberries 10 oz. because it may be contaminated with Escherichia coli O145:H28 (E. coli O145). E. coli O145 is a Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) that can cause illness characterized by severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting.
Fayus Inc., doing business as Yusol International Foods is voluntarily recalling OLA-OLA Pounded Yam because the product may contain undeclared milk in the form of sodium caseinate, which is not declared on the label.A subsequent investigation found that the issue resulted from a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging processes.
