Heat Dome to Scorch Major U.S. Cities This Week

 

A long and dangerous heat wave will blast a large swath of the United States this week, the National Weather Service said, with temperatures rising ahead of the July Fourth holiday and feeling even hotter because of the high humidity that's arriving with it. The heat dome is expected to build over the eastern two-thirds of the country.

Safety Tips for Fireworks

 

As of July 1, 2015, all consumer fireworks are legal in Georgia. Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King urges citizens to use extreme caution to avoid injuries when using fireworks. Consumer fireworks are defined as any small fireworks device designed primarily to produce visible or audible effects by combustion as approved by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Measles Cases and Outbreaks

 

As of June 25, 2026, 2,134 confirmed measles cases were reported in the United States in 2026. Among these, 2,122 measles cases were reported by 41 jurisdictions. There have been 30 new outbreaks reported in 2026, and 93% of confirmed cases (1,982 of 2,134) are outbreak-associated (629 from outbreaks starting in 2026 and 1,353 from outbreaks that started in 2025). 

New Alzheimer’s Blood Test May Tell When Symptoms are Around the Corner

 

Small loops of genetic material may be strong indicators of imminent Alzheimer’s disease (AD) symptoms. In a National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded study, researchers showed that elevated levels of certain circular RNAs (circRNAs) in the blood nearly tripled patients’ risk of developing symptoms, suggesting these molecules are more sensitive to symptom onset than traditional AD biomarkers.

Identify, Isolate and Inform: It is important to continue to ask travel questions. The purpose of this notice is to remind healthcare providers about actions to take in Georgia when evaluating patients for possible serious communicable diseases.
