Quote of the Week

One of the lessons that I grew up with was to always stay true to yourself and never let what somebody else says distract you from your goals. And so when I hear about negative and false attacks, I really don't invest any energy in them, because I know who I am.

-Michelle Obama

Health Advisory: Infectious Disease Preparedness for World Cup

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place from June 11 through July 19. Georgia, specifically the Atlanta metropolitan area, has been selected as one of the official host sites and is expected to receive a substantial influx of domestic and international visitors during the tournament. The large number of travelers arriving from diverse geographic regions increases the potential for the introduction and spread of infectious diseases of public health concern.

Health Alert: Meningococcal disease (N. meningitidis)

Since 2023, the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) has confirmed 65 reports of invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) across 30 counties in Georgia, resulting in 7 deaths. The emergence of antibiotic resistance to ciprofloxacin has been described nationally, including in Georgia. In 2024, DPH encouraged providers to avoid ciprofloxacin as a first-line prophylaxis for close contacts of patients with IMD where feasible. As of June 2026, resistant strains continue to be identified in Georgia.

Nara Organics Recalls All Lots of Nara Infant Formula Because of Possible Health Risk
