Health Alert: Confirmed Cases of Measles

 

The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) has confirmed measles in three members of a metro Atlanta family. These individuals were unvaccinated against measles and had a recent history of international travel. DPH is working with the healthcare facilities visited by these individuals while they were infectious to identify and notify persons who may have been exposed.

Hantavirus Outbreak: Testing for Potential Infection

 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a Health Alert Network (HAN) Health Update to inform clinicians and health departments about testing available for patients with suspected hantavirus infection to include Andes virus. CDC first issued a Health Advisory (CDCHAN-00528) about this outbreak on May 8. Hantaviruses are a group of viruses that typically spread to people who come in contact with sylvatic rodents. 

Ebola Disease Outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda

 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a Health Alert Network (HAN) Health Advisory to alert clinicians, public health practitioners, and travelers about a new outbreak of Ebola disease in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda caused by the Bundibugyo virus (species Orthoebolavirus bundibugyoense). The risk of spread to the United States is considered low at this time. 

Sun Pharma Initiates Voluntary U.S. Nationwide Recall of DOXOrubicin Hydrochloride Liposome Injection

 

Sun Pharma is voluntarily recalling within the U.S. to the hospital/user level, one batch of DOXOrubicin Hydrochloride Liposome Injection 50mg/25 mL, Lot # HAG2581B, Expiration 05/2027 (675 vials). The single batch of 675 vials is being recalled due to the detection of glass particles in some vials during production. If glass particles are administered intravenously, they may pose a risk to patient safety including local irritation or swelling in response to the foreign material. 

IQ Produce LCC Recalls Enoki Mushrooms

 

IQ Produce is recalling 528 cases of Enoki Mushrooms 150g because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women. 

Blackstone Products Recalls Parmesan Ranch Seasoning

 

Blackstone Products is voluntarily recalling certain lots of Blackstone Parmesan Ranch seasoning products because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Blackstone’s action is based on a California Dairies, Inc. recall of dry milk powder due to potential Salmonella contamination. The affected milk powder ingredient was supplied to a third-party manufacturer and used in the seasoning product.

Straus Family Creamery Voluntarily Recalls Select Flavors of Organic Ice Cream

 

Straus Family Creamery is voluntarily recalling a small number of production runs of select flavors and sizes of its Organic Ice Cream due to the potential presence of metal foreign material. Only the production runs (noted by the “best by” date on the package) specified in the recall notification are impacted. These lots were distributed to retailers in 17 states and on shelves beginning May 4. 

Sugar Foods Issues Recall of Specific Lots of Kroger Homestyle Cheese Garlic Croutons

 

Sugar Foods LLC is recalling certain lots of Kroger Homestyle Cheese Garlic Croutons, 5oz pouches, UPC 0 11110 81353 4, due to the potential for Salmonella contamination associated with milk powder used as an ingredient in the product. Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Identify, Isolate and Inform: It is important to continue to ask travel questions. The purpose of this notice is to remind healthcare providers about actions to take in Georgia when evaluating patients for possible serious communicable diseases.

The Travel Clinical Assistant provides post-travel clinical information on travel-related diseases for 231 countries. Diseases with recent outbreaks occurring in the last two years are listed first.
