Study Finds Long COVID Leaves a Distinct Immune Signature in the Blood

In a recent study researchers in Australia and Norway examined how inflammatory and neurological protein levels differ between long COVID and recovery, and how they respond to vaccination and reinfection. According to research, an estimated 5% to 30% of people infected with long COVID continue to experience symptoms months later.

Shigella Infection Increasing in U.S.

A drug-resistant strain of shigella infections is increasing in the United States (U.S.), according to federal health officials. In an April 9 report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), officials found the infections, which have no Food and Drug Administration (FDA)–approved oral treatment, have jumped 8.5% from 2011 to 2023. Officials called the increase a public health threat especially since shigella is spread easily from person to person through fecal-oral transmission, sexual contact or through contaminated food and water.

Low-Cost Care Model Reduces Blood Pressure in High-Risk Populations

A clinical trial funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) found that a scalable, team-based intervention strategy in federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) was able to significantly reduce systolic blood pressure for low-income participants. Scientists deployed team-based care, which included intensive blood-pressure management, blood pressure tracking and feedback to providers, health coaching on lifestyle changes and medication adherence, and home blood-pressure monitoring.

Blaine Labs, Inc Issues Voluntary Nationwide Recall of Wound Care Gel Products Due to Microbial Contamination

Blaine Labs, Inc. is voluntarily recalling three lot numbers of Wound Care Gel products, 1 oz. & 3 oz. (0.1% Benzalkonium Chloride) to the consumer level due to microbial contamination. While it is generally considered to have low pathogenicity in healthy individuals, it can survive in adverse conditions and may act as an opportunistic organism.

Liquid Blenz Corp. Recalls Product Due to Possible Health Risk
