US Hot Spots See More Measles Cases as National Total Nears 2,000

 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said the United States has tracked 1,958 measles cases so far this year, nearing the 2,000-case milestone just one month before the country will likely lose its elimination status. The total represents 46 new US cases.

Expanded Umbilical Cord Blood Transplant Achieves 94% Survival in Severe Aplastic Anemia Patients

 

A clinical trial at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has shown that an experimental treatment for patients with severe aplastic anemia resulted in a 94% survival rate without complications following transplantation. The treatment, which deploys an expanded umbilical cord blood approach known as omidubicel, was recently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for use against severe aplastic anemia for patients without options to receive donor hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) transplantation.

MediNatura New Mexico, Inc. Issues Voluntary Nationwide Recall of ReBoost Nasal Spray Due to Microbial Contamination

 

MediNatura New Mexico, Inc. is voluntarily recalling one lot of ReBoost Nasal Spray to the consumer level. The product has been found to contain yeast/mold and microbial contamination with one species identified as Achromobacter, at levels above specifications. The product is used as a homeopathic nasal spray to temporarily relieve nasal congestion, sinus headache and pressure, postnasal drip, sneezing, runny nose, and nasal itching.

Town Food Service Equipment Co., Inc. Recalls Aluminum Saucepans Because of Possible Health Risk

 

Town Food Service Equipment Co., Inc. is recalling aluminum saucepans due to, potential lead (Pb) contamination. Lead is toxic to humans and can affect people of any age or health status, and there is no known safe level of exposure to lead. Even low levels of lead exposure can cause serious health problems, particularly in children and fetuses.

South Asian Food Inc. Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Peanuts in Bengal King Jhal Chanachur

 

South Asian Food Inc. is recalling its 12.34oz (350gm) packages of Bengal King Jhal Chanachur food treats because they may contain undeclared peanuts. People who have allergies to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. The recalled Bengal King Jhal Chanachur were distributed nationwide in retail stores and through mail orders. 

White Castle Frozen Food Division Recalls Frozen 4-Count Cartons of Original Sliders Due to Undeclared Milk and Soy

 

White Castle Frozen Food Division has initiated a recall of 1,021 cases of its retail frozen four count cartons of Original Sliders due to undeclared milk and soy. The carton may contain Jalapeño Cheese Sliders. Jalapeño Cheese Sliders contain milk and soy, allergens that are not on the Original Slider carton label. Consumers with an allergy or sensitivity to milk or soy run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product.
